The Tropey promise
Tropey’s Generative AI Policy
Tropey is a place for readers to discover books whose stories, covers, and illustrations were created by people.
Readers should be able to choose books with a clear understanding of how their creative content was made. Authors, writers, designers, and illustrators deserve credit for the work they create.
What books qualify
Books listed on Tropey must have story text written by people and cover art and interior illustrations created by people. Human coauthors and creative collaborators are welcome.
Authors may use tools for spelling, grammar, dictation, accessibility, and formatting. Technical image adjustments, such as cropping, resizing, and color correction, are also allowed. These tools must not generate story passages or artwork used in the finished book.
What does not qualify
A book does not qualify if generative AI was used to:
- Draft or substantially rewrite narrative passages, scenes, chapters, or dialogue used in the finished book, even if a person edited them afterward.
- Create images or visual elements used on its cover or in its interior illustrations, even if a person later edited, traced, or combined them with other artwork.
This policy applies to the book editions shown or linked through Tropey. It does not currently make a claim about audiobook narration or promotional graphics.
The author’s commitment
When authors claim a Tropey profile, they confirm to the best of their knowledge that books they list meet this policy. That commitment also applies to books they add later. Authors do not need to submit drafts, artwork files, or a new declaration for each book.
If an author learns that a listing does not qualify, they should correct or remove it.
What our badges mean
Tropey Verified means the author confirmed control of an established author website or account and accepted this ongoing commitment.
Tropey Verified+ means the author completed those steps and Tropey matched their published-book information against additional public sources.
Both badges reflect Tropey’s profile checks and the author’s declaration. Neither badge means Tropey inspected a manuscript or artwork file or independently proved how every part of a book was created. Featured Author is a separate editorial spotlight, not a verification level.
Questions and corrections
Readers and authors can report a specific concern about a listing. Tropey will review it, contact the author privately, and give them an opportunity to respond. Tropey may pause a badge or listing while a concern is reviewed and will provide a way to correct or appeal a decision.
